About Me

Welcome!

My name is Susan Fill and my goal is to provide you with pet wellness information so your pet may live a happy and healthy life.

If you have ever wondered:

  • How do I choose the best food for my pet?
  • Are there any alternative medicine options available to my pet?
  • My pet has been diagnosed with (disease). What does this mean? What is the latest research?
  • Are there any products that may be of benefit to my senior or handicapped pet?

Well, I hope to answer these and many more questions to help you live as many healthy years with your best friend as possible.

My Background

I live in New Jersey with four dogs, one cat, one mother, many fish (both indoor and outdoor) and lots of wildlife visitors. I have a Master of Science in Library and Information Science and like most people in this field, I have an insatiable curiosity about almost everything. I’m passionate about animals and I enjoy finding and sharing information with people so a blog sharing information about animals is a natural for me.

My Pet Family

My pets are my everything. Please allow me to introduce you to them.

This is Toby (a/k/a Tobster, Tobycat), my 18ish-year-old male orange tabby cat.  I walked into a pet store where our town’s local rescue group was holding an adoption event and it was total love at first sight.

Maya (a/k/a Maya Papaya, Baby Girl) is my 14-year-old girl.  If I had to sum up her personality in one word, it would be “firework.”  She hands-down has the most energy out of everyone in the house and is wicked smart.  I’m convinced she’s a Border Collie disguised as a Mixed Breed. I adopted Maya from a local shelter when she was only 5 ½ weeks old.  She’s a German Shepherd, Lab and something smaller mix like a dachshund or maybe a Beagle.  I’m not completely sure and she’s not talking.

Jesse (a/k/a Jesse Wess, Jesse Boo, Baby Boo) is my 13-year-old baby boy.  I adopted Jesse from a local rescue group when he was about 12 weeks old.  He’s a Collie mix.  I’m almost certain he has some Boxer in him.  Jesse is the opposite of Maya.  He’s a mellow guy who is not the brightest bulb in the box and is a bit of a klutz but he has the sweetest heart and he makes me laugh.  Jesse has Degenerative Myelopathy (“DM”), a lethal disease that will take him from me way too soon.  Jesse is the big inspiration for my blog.

My mother who lives with me also has two dogs, Corky (a/k/a Corkster) on the left and Ginger (a/k/a Ging, Wackadoo) on the right.  Corky and Ginger are my “foster failures.”  I briefly fostered dogs years ago for a rescue group. I brought my mother with me to the transport spot to pick up the puppies that I would attempt to adopt out to loving homes. Thing is, she immediately fell in love with both of them and so they have been in my loving home for 12 years now; hence the term “foster failure.” Corky and Ginger are Terrier / Spaniel mixes, we think. Corky is more like a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel while Ginger is more like a Jack Russell Terrier . . . even does the JRT jump.
